Despite fielding a weaker squad, Arsenal was backed to get an eighth win in a row and they did. A first-half goal from Sokratis off of a corner in just the fourth minute gave Arsenal the dominant hand in the fixture, away in Baku, Azerbaijan.
In the second half, Qarabag replied in a strong manner with a goal from Madatov but was counted offside. From there, Arsenal took matters into their own hands. After receiving a pass from winger Alex Iwobi, Smith Rowe finely put the ball in the back of the net to double Arsenal’s lead.
Late in the second half, towards the 79th minute, midfielder Matteo Gendouzi found his first goal for the club after driving a low shot from outside the box into the net upon receiving an assist off of a counter-attack from Alexandre Lacazette.
Qarabag’s next Europa League fixture will be against Vorskla on October 25th in Baku at 20:55 (8:55 PM) Baku Time or 12:55 PM Eastern. Arsenal could face a difficult encounter against Sporting Lisbon in Portugal on October 25th at the same time.
