After losing their opening MLS fixture against DC United, it doesn’t seem anything will get easier for Atlanta United. United head south to Mexico to take on Monterrey, the tournament favorites, in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League Within the last ten years, no American team has won the Champions League, only Mexican sides, with Monterrey being the most successful, winning thrice.

Looking at the teams, it’s easier to say the Monterrey are likely to win. Atlanta United will likely have to play a similar team to that of when they played DC United, and the absence of Miguel Almirón and Franco Escobar makes the offense weaker than we’ve known Atlanta United to be. For Monterrey, midfielders Arturo Gonzalez and Jonathan Urretaviscaya are out in this first leg of two matches.

The match will be played at Estadio BBVA Bancomer in Guadalupe, Mexico on March 6 at 21:00 (9:00 PM) CST or 10:00 PM EDT and can be watched on YahooSports or on Univisión Deportes in Spanish.
